Transit Program

Transit Commuter Spending Accounts (CSAs) cover public transportation or vanpooling expenses for your commute to and from work. SHPS offers nationwide service through more than 300 transit providers, such as bus lines, trains and subways. SHPS also offers a full set of transportation products, including fare cards, vouchers, smart cards and direct payments. Each transit provider offers different fare options, and when you enroll, you’ll be given the ability to choose among all options.

Transit Fare Cards: These are issued directly by the transit authorities, and include monthly passes and multi-ride tickets. These are often the most convenient to use, as you can order them online and SHPS mails directly to your home. No waiting in line!

Transit Vouchers: These are used to pay the transit providers. There are several different brands of vouchers available in selected cities around the country, including Wired Commute's proprietary voucher, and TransitChek, currently available in Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

Smart Cards: Several cities offer smart card programs. The most well-known examples include the Chicago Card Plus and the SmartTrip card in Washington, DC.

The SHPS/Carewise Card can also be used to pay for monthly transit expenses.
