SHPS, TPABenefits, Inc. Partner to Provide Disease Management Via Comprehensive Health Management Portal

Louisville, Ky. (October 18, 2005) – SHPS, a leading provider of disease management services based in Louisville, Ky., and TPABenefits, Inc. of San Antonio, Texas, a company offering technology solutions for health plan administrators, are pleased to announce an agreement to provide SHPS’ Managing for Tomorrow® disease management product through TPABenefits’ comprehensive health management web portal for third-party administrators (TPAs), employers and carriers. The partnership gives TPABenefits’ subscribers yet another medical management tool in the expanding online product suite.
The two companies also announced the first TPA to offer Managing for Tomorrow through this new partnership. Benefit Management Administrators (BMA), a San Antonio-based TPA, has signed an agreement to offer SHPS’ Managing for Tomorrow to its employer groups through the TPABenefits portal.
“In the age of consumer-directed healthcare, we want to seize new technological opportunities to identify and engage people who need healthcare assistance,” said James Burkholder, founder of TPABenefits, Inc. “SHPS has one of the best disease management products available for encouraging participation, and their technical expertise, sales and marketing support made them a natural partner for us.”
“TPAs are clamoring for disease management tools and services,” said Jeff Rosenblum, SHPS’ senior vice president for channel sales. “Health plan administrators and employers can’t wait to address rising healthcare costs and the disproportionate situation where just 15 percent to 20 percent of workers – usually those with chronic disease – generate roughly 70 percent of a company’s medical costs. SHPS’ Managing for Tomorrow disease management solution helps workers improve their long-term health and the company’s bottom line by managing chronic health conditions more effectively.”
TPAs that license TPABenefits’ medical management portal can now include Managing for Tomorrow among the product offerings for its employer groups. Their members who log ontothe portal’s personalized “My Health Center” page will be able to take SHPS’ health risk assessment (HRA). Based on their responses and possible disease states, they may then be referred to Managing for Tomorrow’s broader self-reported, disease-specific survey.
In addition to the HRA and disease management programs, SHPS’ offerings will include wellness programs for maternity management, smoking cessation and weight loss, plus the use of SHPS’ case management nurses for those at greatest risk of disease.
