As executive vice president, chief information officer, Amin Kassem is responsible for creating an agile, stable technology infrastructure to support SHPS’ products and services. These responsibilities include responding to the rapidly-emerging consumer-driven healthcare market and assisting operations teams to improve quality and cost of operations. With more than 19 years' experience, Mr. Kassem has acquired a wealth of knowledge in technology strategy, operations management and information technology and has managed large and complex information technology organizations in multiple industry sectors including healthcare, banking, and manufacturing. He also brings extensive experience in strategy and business process optimization from his management consulting and engineering tenures at Price Waterhouse Coopers and Unisys Corporation.
Mr. Kassem is one of the principal architects of the technology strategy, delivering SHPS’ integrated solutions combining healthcare management and benefits plan administration to provide clients and partners with a single, comprehensive source of health management decision support.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Kassem served as senior vice president of IT services for eBenX, Inc., which was acquired by SHPS in 2003. While at eBenX, Mr. Kassem was instrumental in providing the technology leadership necessary to support the company’s premium bill and pay services. He played a critical role in aligning the company’s technology and operations to deliver innovative solutions and enhanced products, and also helped position eBenX for its successful initial public offering in December 1999.
Prior to his work with SHPS and eBenX, Mr. Kassem was program manager of the emerging technology practice for Price Waterhouse Coopers World Wide Consulting, director of information systems for the Dain Raucher (Wessels) investment banking firm, and a software engineer at Unisys. At Unisys, he led engineering teams focused on new systems development, software quality assurance, and large systems integration and deployment.
Mr. Kassem holds a master in business administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University and a bachelor of science degree in computer engineering from the University of Minnesota. He has served on the technology steering committee and advisory council for multiple companies, including EMC Corporation.
